I should call this episode "things that make you go hmmm." There is a lot to unpack in this episode including the history of Hill House and the first sign of a haunting. I have also recently updated the list of items for the book through the library's catalog: https://sandiego.bibliocommons.com/…/…/1964907340/1978048599 Included in the list are additional movies inspired by gothic horror, words and their definitions, and links to other items of note. Middle French, from Latin indefatigabilis, from in- + defatigare to fatigue, from de- + fatigare to fatigue Chapter 2- atavistic= reversion to a past style manner, outlook, approach, or activity. Atavism derives via French from Latin atavus, meaning "ancestor." Avus in Latin means "grandfather," and it's believed that the at is related to atta, a word for "daddy." In Chapter 6, there is tension between Eleanor and Theo, which leads the reader to question if the relationship between the two characters is strictly platonic. In a different article, it is proposed that what Theo is actually running from, at the end of chapter 6, is Eleanor's romantic love and want of an intimate relationship. The romantic tension was a surprise to me because in the previous chapter, Eleanor's internal dialogue revolves around how much she dislikes Theo. Show less
