This books is just as good as everyone says it is. Get me a t-shirt, I am on the fanwagon. It was slow going at first -- I had to adjust to the world and to the multiple perspectives. But once I got the hang of it all, I was ensorcelled. Each character had fantastic development, and their voices were unique. Kaz's trauma was one of the best told stories of PTSD I have ever read. Inej's two chapters, where she almost died both times, could have been short stories on their own. Her growth within both those chapters was incredible. The relationship between Nina and Matais was slow burning and was of the best enemies to lovers stories I have read in a long time. The heist and the plot in general were not necessarily the most unique but I still loved the high stakes, the improvisation, the talents, the growth, the betrayals. I was here for it all. I think what really helped was that I listened to it on audiobook and it was full cast which was amazing! It made the whole world and each of the characters that more alive and visceral. Also Matais's narrator made me swoon every single chapter. I am happy to have read this book and damn it, I plan on starting CROOKED KINGDOM as soon as possible.
