Handler is a comic, a television host, an author (Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang, Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea) and – most important in this case – an inveterate, compulsive practical joker. This book, which purports to be written by her friends, family and co-workers, rounds up the fake e-mails, phony smuggling schemes, made-up pregnancies, bogus sports bets she has inflicted on those who love her, or like her, or even just hang out around her, including roommates, siblings, casual sex partners and even her dog. It is a litany of tricks played, lies told and humiliations caused. “Am I pleased with myself?” Handler writes in her introduction. “Sort of, but I am definitely not proud.”
