In a debut novel, the author easily transports the reader to another time and place. The ongoing struggle of rural farm life, the isolation and the lonliness were all illustrated beautifully through her words. Narrated through the voices of two main characters, in flux between friendship, competition and hatred, the reader watches the events of the story unfold, but in an indirect and sometimes confusing way. This was well written and I have no major complaints about it, but at the same time, I'm not thrilled about it either. I would recommend it to select readers only who appreciate this type of story.
