This story starts with a square who is perfectly happy. Then he is cut into pieces and poked full of holes so this not so perfect square makes itself into a fountain. This goes on throughout the book. The square is pulled apart and it makes itself into new and creative shapes. This is the kind of book that is more fun if you try the activity out after reading the story. Give your child squares of paper and challenge him/her to cut that square up and make it into new things. It's a great way to explore shapes and the ways shapes can change. This book is a perfect accompaniment to teaching shapes to preschool through 1st graders.
