This book was really great. Since vacationing in Germany in the Spring, I've been doing a lot of reading on this time period, trying to answer the question of how Europe- Germany in particular- went from being such a messed up place in WWII to such a normal, progressive place today. This is the best book I've read on the time period. It is well-written and organized well. It is one of only a couple non-fiction books where I get to the end of the chapter and wonder "what happens next?" The epilogue was the best chapter of the whole book, so if you're short on time, start there. Highly recommended.
