13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher is a realistic portrayal of how suicide may affect individuals around them. One of my favourite things about the novel is that the story is told from Clay's perspective while he is listening to the tapes. The reader is able to simultaneously compare and contrast Clay and Hannah's perspectives in real time as the story goes on. This lets you compare and contrast the different views of the events that occured around Hannah.
