Another classic episode of Nova, filmed in the wake of a deadly storm on Everest that claimed the lives of numerous climbers. This team is part of an effort to understand the neurological effects of prolonged exposure to low-oxygen conditions such as are experienced at high altitude. (Hint: They're not good.) This is a very realisic look at what climbers go through, and what effects these have on their bodies and minds. The scenery is beautiful, yes, but the ugly reality is also exposed: Human activity has really left its mark, with litter-strewn fields, bodies literally lining the trails, and worse. Some will watch this and wonder why anyone would want to go there, and others will watch this and want nothing more than to go there now! What will your reaction be?
