Written, designed and directed by Franco Zeffirelli in 1982, this Italian film presents an exquisitely designed, opulently mounted production for the movie medium.
If you're crazy about this famous opera, this is a must-see; otherwise forget it since you would fall into a deep sleep.

One of the best movies of an opera ever (along with Carmen). This is not a stage production, but a personal vision of director Franco Zeffirelli, who bathes the movie in excessively romantic settings and furnishings, against which is played the touching story of the two lovers. Teresa Stratas gets to your heart as the doomed courtesan Violetta. Her singing and acting are both on an extraordinarily high level. Placido Domingo is a believable and vulnerable Alfredo. This is a very fine movie.
