Kinney uses a diary from the perspective of a relatively average middle school kid to create a humorous and light-hearted plot. Multiple events occur throughout the story, perhaps most noticeably the molded cheese that had been sitting on the blacktop for a long time. The dialogue and words are written in a way that allows everybody from any age to understand and follow along smoothly. This book is a great start for those that classify themselves as “non-book lovers,” as its humor can allow many students from around the world to relate with.

Diary of a Wimpy kid is a hilarious book, and is the start to an even better series. In this book we have a kid who is starting middle school- Greg Heffley. His mom buys him a diary, and expects him to write all his feelings and thoughts down, and we the readers are just taking a peak of what goes through Greg’s mind. We follow Greg as he is adjusting to his new middle school life, and is trying to figure out popularity. He faces many different people, tall ones, short ones, loud ones, and mean ones. He and his best friend Rowly try many different things to try to be “cool” in this series. All the characters are very well developed, and special in their own way. Greg’s family consists of an emo older brother who doesn’t care about anything, a younger brother who always gets their way, a dad who is confused with what’s going on half the time, and a mom who relentlessly tries to bring them all together. I highly recommend this series for light readers ages 7+. At times it is funny, happy, or even sad but it is always entertaining.

I really loved this book series. The plot is very simple and the pictures throughout the book make it way easier to read and enjoy it. I would suggest this books for kids around the age of 8-13. If you don't really love reading like me it does not matter because I promise you that you will love this book series.

This book is a hilarious, realistic account of middle school written from a preteen boy's point of view. While about half the characters are kinda rude, they're all hilarious. Diary of a Wimpy Kid will have you begging for more!

I don't know what to say. This book is straight on epic. It really does get you into middle school, the good parts and the bad. Thank god Jeff Kinney made more of these books, or else I don't think I woulda been able to get to Grade 7. I keep on reading these books and I keep on crackin' up.

An excellent choice for reluctant readers. Silly, witty, and lots of white space.

SPPL_Noah Aug 07, 2019

These books are consistently fairly funny, but they're honestly the most mean-spirited and unhappy things I've ever read. They're absolutely brutal. I think a lot of kids will come away from them a little more aggrieved at their peers and a little more willing to punch down.

Greg and Rowley's friendship had broke due to Greg terrorizing the kindergarteners by chasing them with worms, and Mrs. Irvine had accused Greg of terrorizing the kindergarteners and thought Greg is Rowley, so Rowley and Collin decided to hang out. In the end, Rowley ate the moldy cheese and Greg said he ate it. So, Rowley and Greg's friendship had been restored thanks to Greg stepping up for it.
