Lucy Drake's mastery of Morse code has made her a valuable asset to the American news agencies as a telegrapher. But the sudden arrival of Sir Colin Beckwith at rival British news agency Reuters puts her hard-earned livelihood at risk. Newly arrived from London, Colin is talented, handsome, and insufferably charming. Despite their rivalry, Lucy realizes Colin's connections could be just what her family needs to turn the tide of their long legal battle over the fortune they were swindled out of forty years ago. When she negotiates an unlikely alliance with him, neither of them realizes how far the web of treachery they're wading into will take them.

Like the other reviewer, when I first got this book from the library, I was unable to finish it and returned it, yet checked it out again to re-read and see if I could enjoy it. I did - and didn't. I felt the plot was engaging, yet was concluded too quickly and it felt un-satisfying. Also, Colin's motive for marriage has been done so many times, I'm a bit tired of reading it: marrying for money because that's the only way to save his family's estate, and therefore allying himself with a man he knows is devious? It was hard to like his character throughout the book because of this and I would've liked Colin discovering how he could help his estate instead of someone else broaching it several times. All in all, I give the story my rating because some parts where enjoyable, yet many parts were unenjoyable to me.
