To quote USAF1969 " My one criticism is one that I have expressed in multiple reviews of multiple books by multiple authors. That is, really great story lines that are then rushed to very short endings that leave lots of loose ends (mostly minor). For example in this case, what happened to all those millions of dollars? I still wonder if these "quickie" endings aren't a function of announcing new books and delivery dates many, many months in advance and then publishers/PR folks pushing authors into artificially ending the book quickly to "meet the deadline." I am willing to wait if a deadline is missed."

This book kept me basically glued to it, and it's the first one I read by Lisa Scottoline. I liked how the story evolved in two different points of view, each with its own details and twists, overlapping at some points which made it very nice to see the whole picture, yet not giving away important details and keeping the thrill full speed. It's like I was watching a movie but better! You will not see the end twists coming at you like a snow avalanche, and this will keep you turning pages like there's no tomorrow. Definitely my new favorite author.

Reading this book made me realize why Legal Thrillers are my favorite genre. Maggie, Noah, and their stepson/ son Caleb live a happy and peaceful life . This is shattered. When? After Anna. Yes, the arrival of Maggie's long lost daughter Anna in Maggie and Noah's home changes everything and they know no more peace. Soon Anna is murdered and Noah is charged with her murder. Is Noah really the murderer? Or is Anna a seductress who seduces Noah and ends up getting killed? The legal case is thrilling but the story takes a weird twist and there is a surprising happy ending.

Good book. Good plot, strong characters, good story line, needed to make book. Read about the turmoil a seventeen year old girl can cause in a family of 3. Stepfather gets accused of sexual abuse, then gets arrested and goes to trial for murder of stepdaughter. Look for the great twist at the end.

The cover of Lisa Scottoline's AFTER ANNA has a quote from the NYT Book Review. "Scottoline knows how to keep readers in her grip." Amen to that. I have trouble imagining how she is able to keep imagining such inventive plots, one after the other. No spoiler alerts from me on this one, but she certainly had her imagination in overdrive for this book. I kept having these "where is this going?" moments, particularly with the trial portion of the book. Well, very late in the game I had an inkling where it was going, but even then how it played out was a surprise. Great read as always from her, very engaging, lots of twists and turns. My one criticism is one that I have expressed in multiple reviews of multiple books by multiple authors. That is, really great story lines that are then rushed to very short endings that leave lots of loose ends (mostly minor). For example in this case, what happened to all those millions of dollars? Another great mystery thriller from Lisa Scottoline -- from start to finish. A mother finds her daughter after seventeen years (long back story) -- and brings her home to her family --- a new husband of only two years and his ten year old son. Maggie, the Mom, is so very excited to have her daughter back, that she ignores the "little signs" of strange behavior from her daughter, Anna. A lot of drama leads to Noah, the husband, moving out of the family home and then Anna is found dead. Noah is accused of the murder and things go from bad to worse. There are a lot of twists and turns and the ending is very fast paced. What a great read.

Great story. Mother finds daughter after 17 years of separation - happy days right. Wrong !! Nothing goes as expected and even goes completely off the rails. An ending that you would never have suspected. Interesting characters and well done story that will keep you up reading well into the night. Scotoline always delivers a good tale and she hit this one out of the park.

Excellent family thriller. I enjoyed the alternating chapters telling two parts of the story. Lisa Scottoline is excellent.

Although the author writes strong legal series, this standalone novel captures your attention from the beginning. Maggie and Noah have married, each for the second time. All appears well until Anna enters the picture. She is Maggie's teenage daughter, who was taken from her in infancy, by Maggie's then-husband who had her declared an unfit parent. When Anna's father dies suddenly, Maggie and Anna are reunited after years of estrangement. So far, so good. The rest you will need to read on your own. To tell you more would be a spoiler. This is a fast-paced, suspenseful novel that does not let up. Each chapter is headed either by Maggie or Noah, before or after Anna. This is a very effective style of writing because it sheds light on both sides of the story. Read this book and you will be astounded. Predictable it is not.
