Totally agree, soundtrack is mushy, lots of background noise, loud “mood” music and no subtitles available. Difficult to understand so didn’t watch.

If you're looking for something to watch after Penny Dreadful, this might be your bag. It's different from Penny Dreadful in some ways, but there's a supernatural element that is similar. Usually shows with a lot of old-school corporate espionage (not sure how else to phrase it!) are difficult for me to follow, but this made sense to me.

My only complaint is that the sound quality isn't great, and the DVD has no subtitling option. I would've thought the BBC would put more thought into that. Five stars for the writing and acting, though - Tom Hardy is especially chilling in this.

I love Tom Hardy's acting, and I wanted to like this series more. Tom's character is the anti hero, who we are not told exactly why he is so powerful, and full of rage. It is hinted at various time of his time in Africa, his mothers treatment, his love for his half sister, his relationship with his father being the catalyst for his actions Great cast.

DVD #31336 10818 6652 - the first half of episode 7 on disc 2 is corrupted, your player will not read it at all. We enjoyed the series overall however. Taboo has an intriguing and eerie tone to it. Tom Hardy is excellent as always. We hope the library will acquire season 2.

Very high production values and great acting don't save what ultimately is somewhat boring to watch. How many extreme closeups of Tom Hardy's face can one show have? The dreariness and darkness eventually take their toll. The writing is loose and the story is hard to follow at times. This might have made a great two hour movie for a whole series? I held out to the end but I am not sure I should have. I am going to have think about whether Season 2 is worth the time and effort. For anyone who really liked this...I am happy that it worked out. I had hoped it would for me too.

This is a very interesting take on the colonization of North America by the Governments of U.S. and England. This series has everything in it, and all of it is very well done. As usual Tom Hardy excels at all he does.

Loved it right from the start. Tom Hardy draws you in with his dark and violent character. There are other really interesting characters that I was drawn to also. I can't wait for season two. If you liked Peaky Blinders you will love this one.

As a Tom Hardy fan, this was an exciting, dark drama filled with rich, powerful men scheming and enacting plots to out maneuver one another for the upper hand, in this particular case dealing with international trade. There is an added supernatural element at play that adds a little something extra to the cat and mouse game being played among powerful trading companies, the British empire, and a fledgling little upstart nation known as the United States. Weapons, spies, and duels included.
