Asylum is the the third book in the Detective Jill Brennan series. Jill Brennan is called out to investigate with her boss, DI Nick Rimis the discovery of a dead body in the grounds of an abandoned 19th century mental asylum. Rimis is convinced the death was suicide. Brennan would have agreed with him but for the fact the victim is her ex-lover. The police commissioner wants the investigation dropped-media interest in a recent hike in the suicide rate of emergency service workers makes the death a political nightmare. But Brennan is determined to uncover the truth, even if it means dealing with her own demons. Believing grief is affecting Brennan's judgement, her superiors force her to take time off. But when another body is found at the old asylum, Brennan is back on the case and the investigation takes a darker turn into the world of drugs, murder, gangs and child abuse.--Provided by publisher.
