Millom in the DockeBook - 2015
If some friends show you a holiday photograph of them, you probably think 'oh yawn, a holiday photograph of them standing in front of a bush' ... unless you're a woman and the friend is a neighbour and he's yummy. Normal holiday photographs tend to have a good yawn factor. But, if these normally boring friends happened across a Caricature artist on their tipsy stroll along the Puerto De La Cruz promenade and said artist sketched/painted their version of them or one of them, then chances are you'd like it because it would be a little pinch of fun. Or if Spitting Image made a puppet of them, certain features would be fun exaggerated, which you would never dare to mention in normal life ... 'well, I always thought you had an odd shaped nose actually ... and wonky ears and a squint.' That isn't the sort of thing you'd say because it would probably cause offence, but caricature artists seem to get away with it, and paid! This is sort of-ish exactly precisely what this book is, a caricature word portrait of an otherwise boring town (somehow, saying that upsets the locals more, but they still get upset when you exaggerate, slightly that boring everydayness-ness ... ahhh! Publish and be damned! Being pre-damned as I am, is handy). So hope you enjoy it. We thought we would call it a Tourist Misguide, as it seemed like an interesting genre which didn't exist until now. How's that for creativity? Dare you to visit the Mecca of the North West if you're up that way (mention my name, they love me).--Provided by publisher.
