Let's Talk About Body Boundaries, Consent & Respect
A Book to Teach Children About Body Ownership, Respectful Relationships, Feelings and Emotions, Choices, and Recognizing Bullying Behaviors
Book - 2018
Teaching young children about body boundaries, both theirs and others, is crucial to a child's growing sense of self, their confidence and how they should expect to be treated by others. A child growing up knowing they have a right to their own personal space, gives that child ownership and choices as to what happens to them and to their body. It is equally important a child understands, from a very young age, they need to respect another person's body boundary and ask for their consent when entering their personal space. This book explores these concepts with children in a child-friendly and easily-understood manner, providing familiar scenarios for children to engage with and discuss.

Add a CommentSuch a great, as well as a very wise, book to help parents and guardians teach this principle for boys and girls; and it's communicated in a non-intense, approachable and still-joyful way. It communicates body language ideas, non-verbal and verbal cues, and many other important factors in an amazingly concise and effective way. Had this book existed and been foundational 20-30 years ago or more, the way especially people in the United States relate may have been very different. This is a fantastic book about respect.
I read this to my 4 and 5 year old. They were both enamored, and the really understood the subject. Now I remind them of body boundaries when they're being usual siblings, and it really resonates with them.
