Beautiful scenery of New Zealand is the backdrop for this well-acted, well-directed detective series. Very good acting and good scripts--a bit like an Agatha Christie story with a touch of Colombo. Set in about 2015, a big-city detective goes to a small town and doesn't want to leave. Fabulous choices for the "background music" that leaves me wanting to explore the New Zealand country music genre.

It is a pretty good series. The actors do a good job and the stories are ok. The characters do grow on you.

The plots are trite; the acting second rate. A disappointment.

Enjoyable quirky series.

Difficult accent to become accustomed to hearing. Entertaining series to watch. The music is annoying, twangy country western.

The series has been described as "charming, without being cloying, very well-written (thanks to Tim Balme) and funny, but not too funny [...] It’s also engaging, full of twists and will keep you guessing right till the end." (Christine Tidball)
I personally find it a very well done whodunit series. The setting in New-Zealand is authentic; the cops feel like real people; the actors play their roles very well; the plots, as in any whodunit, are slightly predictable but certainly more interesting and intricate than your regular American shows. The choice of music (country music) is fun and certainly "different" from other shows of this kind. I'll really miss Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Shepherd when this series ends... He really grows on you. Hopefully we can enjoy the Series 2 & 3 when they're out on DVD.

I don't have a particular reason why I love this series. The characters are great, stories and photography are very good.

Perhaps I should have given it a few episodes, but I found the plot of the first one so boring and the male lead so unpleasant to look at that I had no wish to see more.

I enjoyed Series One. It has a light touch, some humor, and no-one has super powers.

Not too impressed with first episode, but decided to watch one more. Glad I did, the writers added some quiet humour, the actors got into their roles, and because it is very low key investigating,, not big city slick, it works. Lovely countryside too.
