Dr. Will Caster is the foremost researcher in the field of artificial intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. His highly controversial experiments have made him famous, but they have also made him the prime target of anti-technology extremists who will do whatever it takes to stop him.

Watched this film without any expectations, but was pleasantly surprised by the story.

Not only did it put me to sleep, I rewatched the part I missed and I still feel like I missed it. This came close to being an averagely good intellectual type science fiction movie.

It kept my interest. The hypothesis is that a human intelligence can be up loaded into a computer & dispersed over the internet. In fact, the suggestion is that one day computers will have a soul. The technical path of getting there as displayed in the movie may lack some credibility. We are yet there. However, many believe that this is a credible goal for future generations. In the end of the movie a group called RIFT or Remove Intelligence from Technology do shut down the internet to save the world. The movie ends with a world without internet. They definately left room for a sequal. .

Pretty good. A love story wrapped inside an sf flick, touching on the much-debated question about AI: good or bad? Will the machines try to replace us?

I won't tell you about the intentions of this particular one.

Last line (Paul Bettany voice-over) makes you cringe, it's so corny.

Boring, immoral, and not recommended. He tries to take the place of GOD. I wouldn't try it if I was him.

I'm still hoping for AI advancement and will continue to do so until all of mankind learns to work together nicely for the common good, equality to all without prejudiced.

Merging a human mind to a computer is an old SF theme. But here's a twist: it's the mind of a brilliant computer scientist. Guess what happens when the mind controls the Internet!? Another twist: nanotechnology enhancement. Another twist: how can the omnipotent computer mind ever be defeated? Stars Johnny Depp.

Set in a frightening sci-fi world of Utilitarian terrorists fighting Hegelian totalitarianism, I'd call this a crappy hollywood romance. Much preferred Her and Ex Machina.

"I spent my life trying to reduce the brain to a series of electrical impulses. I failed. Human emotion, it can contain illogical conflict. Can love someone, and yet hate the things that they've done. Machine can't reconcile that. " - Max Waters

“Will Caster in lecture: For 130,000 years, our capacity to reason has remained unchanged. The combined intellect of the neuroscientists, mathematicians and... hackers... in this auditorium pales in comparison to the most basic A.I. Once online, a sentient machine will quickly overcome the limits of biology. And in a short time, its analytic power will become greater than the collective intelligence of every person born in the history of the world. So imagine such an entity with a full range of human emotion. Even self-awareness. Some scientists refer to this as "the Singularity." I call it "Transcendence."
