This is a good book if you're interested in a nice, long read. An emotionally complex bildungsroman, "The Heart of Thomas" is considered a classic manga, and has aged pretty well for being published over 40 years ago. It covers themes of love, grief, suicide, trauma and forgiveness. The moody plot however is punctuated with moments of adorable humor and youthful antics, sometimes with cute Charlie Brown-esque artwork to match. The story is not as volatile as the summary might make it seem. It's actually very quiet and well-paced, something the author insisted on doing at the expense of making the the story seem longer. You have plenty of time to immerse yourself in the characters' world and empathize with their individual situations. Coming in at a little over 500 pages, this tankobon collects all three volumes that were originally published in the Shojo Comic magazine back in the 70's.

The Heart Of Thomas is a deceptively deep book that's both beautiful and heartbreaking. The story line has no clear pro or antagonist and changes with every page turn.
The book is a story about a boy's quest of love and innocence after another boy's death at his school and the boy's note
A raw book that you'll find yourself rereading and decoding, The Heart Of Thomas' stunning illustrations and compelling is truly an incredible find.
