For an older movie and a western at that, it was indeed far more than what I expected. I never really did enjoy much westerns in the past as I could not see the message beyond the gunfights, killing and overall western period however from what I saw, heard and understand, this was so well done. It really does say a lot about how movies; if done right; helps spur on our thinking for the greater Good. I truly enjoyed that visual parable. Now I know why I've always enjoyed Clint Eastwood movies later on my life's journey. He does indeed know how to do "Art" well in movies and that alone is an amazing gift - from God. "How" movies are done these days indeed helps me to see the messages much more clearer. Lord willing, I can't wait to see your next movie project. P.S. the only reason I watched this western is because of the name "Pale Rider". I was so curious as to how this was done. Also, as a movie watcher, movies done the way you do helps indeed make the waiting less daunting. Thanks and God Bless

The asinine user below is a sneering, snot-nosed little suck who practically rates every movie she sees with a 1-star rating or less and the same goes for every CD she rates, too.

I am really sick of this sniveling turd posting comments on this website. I sure wish that she would just bug off.

Is this anything more than a third-rate remake of Eastwood's earlier "High Plains Drifter"? If he had learned anything about film-making from his 3 films with Sergio Leone, it certainly isn't apparent. All the actors might as well be talking in Italian with the woodenest dubbings imaginable. There is also not the slightest trace of the master's humour.

"And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him." - The Book of Revelation, Chapter 6, Verse 8. The mysterious Preacher (Clint Eastwood), Death, brings protection, and a little belief, to a group of miners tormented by a powerful mining corporation and its owner, Coy LaHood (Richard Dysart).

'Pale Rider' is a beautifully crafted western and one of Clint Eastwood's best films. He uses the blueprint of George Stevens' classic 'Shane' and manages to put his own unique stamp on the story of a lone cowboy who descends on a lawless town and helps the hapless gold miners being terrorized by a renegade sheriff and his men.

Solid Western by Eastwood- the films theme builds towards a satisfying conclusion- and it will linger in your brain for a while after that- deceptively simple but powerful film by Clint.

This film is supposed to be a replica of an older western, 'Shane'. However, I find Eastwood's screen presence as a gunfighter much stronger than that of Alan Ladd. A good western and enjoyable to watch.

By the numbers,..delivers the formula. Except that its persecuted miners this time ,.. instead of sod sodbusters, sheep hearders, etc. And the superhero has two female admirers.

A solid and spooky Clint Eastwood Western, start to finish. Strongly reminiscent of "Shane". "Pale Rider" refers to the the fourth rider, Death, of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, from the Book of Revelation, chapter six. Megan is reading the exact verse when she and her mom first see Preacher ride up to their house. Eastwood has revealed in interviews that his character is in fact a ghost. Great cast. "Law and Order's" Michael Moriarty; steely eyed Western villain John Russell (Rio Bravo); Neil Young's ex Carrie Snodgress; 7' 2" giant Richard (Jaws) Kiel as 'Club'; Sean Penn's late brother Chris... Fourteen year old Sydney Penny gives a memorable performance as the blossoming doe-eyed Megan. Killer flick. FIVE STARS.

Probably better than most people credit. More than just a spaghetti western, it has some very interesting, almost mystical, elements too it. However, yes, it's mostly a western action thriller.
