Great series. Season 2 answered a lot of the quirks, questions from Series 1.

A fun, quirky series. Hope this wasn't the end of it.

The ending ruined the whole series for me - I wish I'd stopped watching half way through the second season. Loved the music, but there was very little follow through on the plot. Does anything he does in 1973/4 change circumstances in 2006? Don't know. Does he give any thought to the feelings of his mother / aunt / friends who sat by his comatose body for 2 years? No. Are we still supposed to think he's a nice guy? Apparently. Is he buying in to the bullying, abusive, and corrupt system after the first few episodes of taking the moral high ground and trying to clean up the 1973 police force? Oh yeah.
Everyone involved in this production seems to have taken it WAY too seriously. This would have been a much better series if the whole coma thing had been left out and we had never known how he got back into the '70s.

As mentioned so many times in the DVD special features, you should watch "The Sweeney". Available from the VPL, https://vpl.bibliocommons.com/item/show/1712788038_the_sweeney

Love it! A policeman in London in current times, is hit by a car and trapped in a coma. At least, some of him is trapped in the coma, the rest of him finds himself living as a cop in 1974, a duck out of water. Funny, kinda goofy and a good series in general. Should mention that you need to start with Episode One, Season One and watch the episodes in order, because the characters progress and change through their various escapades.

During Life on Mars, Series 2 DI Sam Tyler and DCI Gene Hunt continue to butt heads and solve crimes using their own preferred methods. Sam likes to gather the facts whereas Gene uses gut instincts and suspect intimidation. In series 2 Sam continues to believe he is in a coma and wants to return to the present time. DC Annie Cartwright is promoted from uniformed service into the detective squad. There are eight episodes where the team solves various brutal murders. In one case DCI Hunt is the prime suspect. Life on Mars has great acting, some of the best music of the period and dramatizes life during the 70s in Manchester England.

WATCH SEASON ONE FIRST! Fantastic series that gets you to care about each of the motley crew of coppers. Progression of relationships and Sam's adaptation to the 70s is believable and touching. All this and some great comedy and action scenes too!
