In an earthquakes aftermath, the lives of four strangers converge as they find new purpose amid the carnage. Throughout this enthralling audiobook, Steel creates a stunning array of contrasts, from the dazzle of a society benefit to the chaos of a makeshift hospital, from the pampered lives of rock stars to the quiet heroism of emergency volunteers.

I guess I'm lucky that I've only recently begun to listen to Danielle Steel's audio books. I find myself getting involved with all her characters (especially the many with long red hair and green eyes). I still see each story as unique and have loved them all.

The story is interesting, but the writing often repetitive. I found myself thinking, “She already said that” numerous times. The narrator seemed really dry in tone. Other narrators develop different voices for the characters, but except for the photographer, these are sounded the same. And why does he have a southern twang if he’s from Montana? Maybe it’s supposed to be a ranch drawl. I endured 5½ of the 8 CDs before giving up.
