This book is a collection of stories of Augusten's Christmases over the years, starting at childhood and ending at the time of writing the book.
The stories of the younger Augusten were sweet and funny. They told of childhood wonder, of mixed up beliefs that kids sometimes get and general childhood. Augusten was a precocious and difficult child and one that saw the world in a different and interesting way. It would have been both a difficult and interesting thing to watch this kid go through childhood.
In adulthood, Augusten has some low Christmases. The story of the Christmas he spent on the streets was heartwarming, really. That was a nice Christmas story. It may have been my favorite.
In the last couple of stories Augusten has found his peace and is happy. These stories are lovely, knowing that he's found his way but they were also the slowest paced. The final story did drag and was exaggerated and expanded too much. The humor got lost in the long, airy, flamboyant telling.
All in all, I enjoyed these and they revolved around Christmas.

Possibly the worst book ever written.

Not good at all.
Don't waste your time on this one. Too much ego and proud of how crass he is.

The author does his work a great disservice by reading the text himself. Although the humour is available from the actual words ; Augusten Burroughs does not have the skills necessary for their audio presentation . It was an almost irritating struggle to separate his forced verbal cadence from the actual stories .
