Modern Mrs Darcy
An ok read. Fluff
No impressed - did not read
Completed in October 2013.
An interesting interwoven novel about marriage and the slogan "a Diamond is Forever" which was coined by a real ad exec by the name of France's Gerety.
I am at page 114 of 369 and I just don't care any more. going to have to put this one down. Boooooooring1
Thought this was an enjoyable read, with some interesting twists as the reader finds how each the stories connect. Some quotable moments and some funny ones too. Character development was good, although un-inventive, but can see how her skill has progressed since her last book, Maine.
I just did not like this book. I found it slow moving and somewhat dark at the beginning. It improved as we finally got some character development late in the book. Not for me.
A patron review from the Adult Summer Reading Game: A look at the diamond industry through the eyes of several different characters. 4 Stars!
I'm only halfway through and I'm already recommending it to my friends! These are basically interconnected short stories of weddings, marriages, divorces and engagements, tied together with the story of the 1950's copywriter (think Peggy Olson on Mad Men) who created the tagline "A Diamond is Forever". The settings range from the 30's to current day, from Paris to Philadelphia, and the story lines eventually circle back to refer to previous characters. Not as biting as Ayelet Waldman, and not as sweet as Anne Tyler, but recommended for fans of both.
