Isabelle Faust has gone back to the original manuscript sources to offer us her version of a masterpiece of the violin repertoire. In Bach's time, music for solo instruments was still little explored territory, and his sonatas, partitas and suites immediately established themselves as a benchmark, technically challenging and brimming with creativity.

Here's a comment: Some cretinous idiot covered over the track listings on this CD and there was no booklet with the copy that I have out from the library. "Go to the catalogue," or some might say. Well, I did and the damned catalogue doesn't give the full listing of the pieces performed, i.e., NO MOVEMENT BREAKDOWN. Someday the NYPL will stop letting idiots label their items Some day. NOT anytime soon I fear.
