Belle de Jour (1967), masterpiece film of Luis Bunuel, starring Catherine Deneuve and Michel Piccoli, told the story of a young woman who secretly became a prostitute by day in an attempt to lose her frigidity with her new husband. In this 2006 film, thirty eight years later, Deneuve’s character met with Piccoli’s character where they discussed what happened so many years before. There is no point in seeing this film without being familiar with the Bunuel film. This newer film was directed by the great Portuguese film director Manoel de Oliviera, who was 97 when he made the film in 2006. He is now 106 and still making films. Piccoli, in an interview on the DVD, says Oliviera is always joking about his incredible age.
