Definitely not The Red Tent, one of my all time favorite books. As interesting as the main character's life must have been, Ms. Diamant squandered the opportunity to get beyond the "And then I did this..." style of story telling. She did…

A pleasant read, but not a great one. There are a number of historical details touched on which could be interesting to delve into further and I don’t regret reading the book. I might have liked it better if it were an actual memoir.

I hate to admit it, but... I couldn't finish this book. It's for a book club that I'm facilitating, so I really should have completed it. But I couldn't. I usually don't mind slower-paced books, but this one lingered far too long. The…

I totally enjoyed this book. I am 80. When I was a young student nurse in the late fifties, I had occasion to work with a lot of wonderful Jewish doctors who influenced my life in so many positive ways. I did not want the book to end!…

Told in the form of an interview, an 85 year old woman recounts her life story. Overall, I really enjoyed this read. The voice of the narrator was warm and inviting and felt very genuine. It served as a great reminder of how far we have…

Loved this one. Literally read it in one day. So well written and charming. A wonderful peek through the window into the life of a Jewish woman and family.

April 02 2015 I was expecting so much more from this novel. However, Anita Diamant seems to have glossed over the times and events that took place in Boston in the 1900s. I spent my childhood in Boston's North End in the 1950s, but I did…

85 year old Addie tells her granddaughter the story of finding her place in early twentieth century America. Our book club loved it and you will too!

I could not put this one down. Addie's story captured my attention and I had to know how things turned out for her. If you enjoyed reading the Orphan Train you should add this book to your list of must reads. It would make a great book…

The Boston Girl is a delightful story that I was not expecting to find so enjoyable. The characters of this novel were richly brought to life through dialogue and action. Diamant pulls you into Addie's life so effortlessly that you do not…

I found this book to be dull and instantly forgettable. The characters were one dimensional and none of them were developed to the point where you actually cared about them. Very disappointing.

This is an immigrant story, told much better by other authors!! The author has thrown in several 20th century events to make the novel more authentic. It doesn't help!

Reading Anita Diamant's "The Boston Girl"(my first novel by this author)was like taking a stroll down memory lane with its eighty-five-year-old narrator, Addie Baum, as she recounts the early part of the twentieth century growing up in…

Beautifully written by a masterful storyteller, this book is very different from Anita Diamant's previous works, but it is equally enjoyable. It is written with the same attention to historical detail, and character development as The…

Addie Baum, now 85, tells her life story to her granddaughter for a school project, reliving events through much of the Twentieth Century. Daughter of Jewish immigrants from 'somewhere that became the Soviet Union,' ‘Boston Girl’ Addie…

The story took a few chapters to grab me, then I really loved reading about 85 year old Addie's reminisces. Addie is relating her life to one of her grand-daughters and it describes what life for a Jewish girl living in Boston from 1915…

Anita Diamant is a wonderful writer. The Boston Girl focuses on an immigrant family and the struggles the family must confront to survive. This is a coming-of-age book and is told from Addie Baum's point of view. Addie is an ambitious…

Boston Girl was a very good read which deserved my 4 stars but not 5. The storyline was very interesting as it gave me an insight into what life was like during early 1900's for strong women who had an initiative to become more than…

This was such an interesting book--showing what life for women in America was like not all that long ago. It's a must read.
